Moving Office?

Here’s How to Do It the Stress-Free Way
image of Moving Office?

Packing up your working life and moving to a new office is a stressful, time-consuming and potentially expensive journey. And everyone who’s ever had the pleasure of doing it will agree.

There’s a hell of a lot to think about and do.

But if you follow these 6 tips, it will be a hell of a lot less stressful.

Assess Your Present Situation

Before even making the big move you need to work out whether you’re even in the position to do so. And whether it’s the right thing to do.

Ask yourself these fundamental questions first:

  • What is your current situation?
  • Have you checked your existing lease?
  • How much notice do you have to give?
  • What are the conditions for leaving your existing property?
  • What are your current obligations & liabilities?
Get together with your team and make sure you’re doing the right thing for the right reasons. Weigh out the pros and cons, make a decision – and you’re on your way!

Make Your Requirements Crystal Clear

Strategic planning is essential. As a savvy business person, you knew this already. So make sure you don’t slack when it comes to planning your big move, OK!?

  • Here are some things you need to map out and decide on:
  • Where you’re actually moving to
  • How much space you’re going to need
  • What your moving-in deadline is
  • What important features you need to have in your new office
  • The kind and length of lease you want in the new place
  • What the floor plan of your new office is
Where everything and everyone will be positioned

These are the generic decisions you absolutely need to have sorted. There will also be some other plans more specific to your individual company that you’ll have to set in stone too. Think about what they are. And plan them.

Get Your ‘A Team’ Ready

Moving office is not going to be easy. So make sure you get the right team to help you do it as smoothly as possible. And appoint an Office Move Manager to run the show.

You’ll need a good moving company to get all your office supplies and equipment from A to B. And shifted into their proper positions within the new office. But getting everything installed is a whole different ball game. Those muscly moving guys can’t do that!

Start Early

There’s a lot to do – we’ve established this already. So make the process easier for yourself by starting as early as possible (within reason). Make your office-move as stress-free as possible.

Start reviewing your options 9-18months before the end of your lease. You’ll need a lot of planning time and time to weigh out the different relocation options available.

Give yourself time – and you’ll get the best price.

Communicate!

It’s going to be a big change. For you and your staff.

And it has the potential to be a real morale-booster for your team and hence a huge improvement in business performance and productivity.

But make sure you communicate well with your staff, keep them up-to-date with all your movements and ease any worries they may have about the move.

Communication is key.

Get rid of the junk

Yep. We all have too much excess crap lying around the office that frankly just makes it more clogged up and does no good at all. You’re not the only one.
